2024 Festival

DATES: TBD

2023 Festival Dates

July 6-8 (J. Haydn, The Creation)

  • Perform J. Haydn’s Creation as part of the Sing Along! Festival Chors, 225 years after its first performance in 1798 in Vienna’s St. Stephen’s Cathedral. As if driven by a force majeure, Haydn created this elementary, large-scale work in just two years and, completely exhausted, fell seriously ill shortly after the premiere. The 66-year-old Haydn describes the act of creation powerfully and uplifting at the same time.
  • You will work on the German version of the work in workshops lasting several days under the direction of Prof. Gerald Wirth, artistic director of the Vienna Boys’ Choir, and then perform it together with the Vienna Cathedral Orchestra and well-known soloists as a celebratory final concert in Vienna’s St. Stephen’s Cathedral.

July 13-15 (WA Mozart, Coronation Mass & GF Handel, Dettinger Te Deum)

  • Sing WA Mozart’s Coronation Mass and Handel’s Dettinger Te Deum 280 years after its premiere in a sing-along concert in Vienna’s St. Stephen’s Cathedral. Due to their length and the musical inspiration that Mozart gained through Handel’s music, these two works fit together perfectly and fill a concert evening perfectly.
  • Study the works, the Coronation Mass and Dettinger Te Deum (English version), under the direction of Prof. Gerald Wirth, Artistic Director of the Vienna Boys’ Choir, over several days in workshops and then perform them as part of the Sing Along! Festival choirs in a large-scale evening concert in Vienna’s St. Stephen’s Cathedral. Accompanied by the Orchestra of the Vienna Cathedral Music and well-known soloists.

October 29-21 (WA Mozart, Requiem)

  • Perform Mozart’s Requiem (KV 626) to match All Saints’ Day in Vienna’s St. Stephen’s Cathedral. Mozart’s Requiem is one of the best and most moving that classical music has to offer. The connection between Mozart and St. Stephen’s Cathedral is known around the world. After his death, he was laid out in the cathedral for farewell before being transferred to the St. Marx Cemetery in Vienna.
  • Under the direction of Prof. Gerald Wirth, artistic director of the Vienna Boys’ Choir, you will work on the work over several days in German and English language rehearsals. Together with well-known soloists and the Vienna Cathedral Orchestra, you will perform Mozart’s Requiem at the end as part of the Sing Along! Festival choirs in a festive concert in St. Stephen’s Cathedral.
